History of H. C. Evans & Company
The H. C. Evans & Company of Chicago was once a leading manufacturer of casino equipment and supplies in the United States. It was established in 1892. The company manufactured and originated casino equipment and supplies, trade stimulators, pocket novelties, amusement park supplies, fairground games (carnivals) and shooting galleries.
The Company began production of console slot machines in the mid 1930's. They competed in the console market against Bally, The Exhibit Supply Company, Pace (Paces Races) and others. This type of machine is referred to as a spinner with a light that spins under the glass coming to a stop to determine the winner. The horserace theme was popular as well as a dice theme called Galloping Dominos. The mechanism was the same with a different glass. Evans also manufactured amusement games (arcade) and juke boxes.
The company was dissolved in 1955. They were succeeded for a while by a company known as Evans Park & Carnival Device Corporation, which was still in business in June 1961 but no longer trades, and by Evans Supply Company, which was trading in 1962 but no longer trades.
